gobble, gobble

it is time to give thanks!

claudia visiting, november 078

the kids and i gobble up november. it’s a month of family, gratitude, history, and it kicks off holiday cooking. i tend to make the most of the season’s bounty and cook more desserts and soups then my family can eat.

i’ve already stocked up on costco sized portions of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, curry and ginger. as well as apples, pears, mushrooms, squash and walnuts; which are the perfect complement to any meal.

since experimenting and venturing out with new dinner recipes my kids have been reluctant to come to the dinner table. they finally found the courage to sit and eat through the pre-dinner prayer. ….”please bless this food that it will taste good…” is how my son began his prayer the other night.

these are some favorites:

pumpkin cookies with a browned butter frosting. delicious!

thai curry. it’s a FAVORITE! we have been working on a good not-too-spicy, yet flavorful combo. we LOVE spicy but the kids are not ready for a 4 star order of curry.

yes, it was too spicy for little A. after his curry he was in heaven with a nice bowl of plain oatmeal.

since we are on the topic of oatmeal, i have a new mix-in recipe. i used the leftovers from a cinnamon roll filling in our oatmeal over the past few days. here is my recommendation:

cooked oats

mix-in to have ready for a few bowls of oatmeal:

1/4 cup cinnamon, 1 cup brown sugar, hand full of chopped pecans

sprinkle mix-in over the top of your oatmeal along with:

1/2 cup frozen berries. (i use the costco frozen mix of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries)

it tastes like a healthy breakfast of berry cobbler.

enjoy your holiday and happy cooking!

  2. I'd love to be there to taste all of your great cooking. It sounds like Alex takes joins me in the 'not quite ready for 4 stars' club.

    Love you,
